So this is the start of my weekly series of tips and ideas related to creating and maintaining a website. Let’s get started!
TWC Tuesday Tips #1
Some people might think that setting up a website is just about creating a nice design and adding information such as services and maybe an about us and contact page.
This is a good place to start, but what’s the point in having a pretty website if it’s just going to sit there? Apart from those people who access your website directly, who’s going to find it if search engines (ie Google) don’t know it’s there?
This is where Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO for short) comes in. SEO is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search engine results. Organic results are any traffic that you don’t have to pay additional fees for. (Additional fee examples include search engine advertising and Google Adwords).
You may wonder what SEO has got to do with creating a new website? The best time to optimise your website is when you are creating it. This may seem odd, but why not get things right from the very beginning?
Some simple and maybe obvious SEO practices should be implemented at the start of a website build strategy.
Next week I’ll start looking into some of the key factors that need to be considered to ensure your website has a good chance of ranking well on search engines. Not only that, but to give your website users a good experience.
